Happy news here as Rosebud lambed yesterday and had a beautiful fluffy white ewe lamb. Which is fantastic news after her problems with lambing last year. She lambed a bit early, so ended up lambing in the field. We will be keeping an eye on Scaredeycat now too.
In sadder news, the chickens are no more. A pine marten (armed with a wire snips I reckon) managed to break its way through the chicken wire and into the coop to behead the chickens. It is a battle to compete with that kind of ability. Electric fence is really the only option, which I have been not keen on while the kids are so small. We are sad and really miss these chickens, they were like pets in a way that other chickens were not - incredibly friendly and constantly coming on picnics with us, and gathering around our fires to hang out.
But we will just have to focus on Rosebud and her lovely new lamb to keep the smiles on our faces. I have of course been assessing the lamb's wool for spinning qualities and I think she is a keeper!
